Chandlers appointed Maschio, Gaspardo, Sky & Strautmann dealers.
Chandlers have formed a new partnership with OPICO to supply the full range of Maschio, Gaspardo, SKY and Strautmann ranges of equipment. This builds on the very successful relationship we have supplying the HE-VA cultivation range and OPICO range of grassland maintenance equipment and mobile grain dryers.
OPICO headquarters are at Bourne in Lincolnshire, central to our area, and well placed to provide the highest level of sales, service and parts supports for our customers. OPICO have product specialists dedicated to each of these ranges of equipment, to provide the first-hand technical knowledge to support our team.
Maschio Gaspardo are a well-established leader in the production of rotary cultivators, power harrows, flails & mulchers, precision planters, cereal seed drills, combination cultivator-drills, flail-mowers and ploughs. With an annual turnover of more than €350 million, and 11 production sites employing more than 1,800 worldwide, they have the capacity to deliver the right products for your farm.
Sky-Agriculture Seed Drills provide high capacity drilling solutions for all soil conditions and cultivation systems. The Sky MaxiDrill enables drilling on ploughed, deep and shallow cultivated soil and, in good conditions, directly into uncultivated soils. The Sky EasyDrill is specifically designed as a no-till direct drill but works equally well in minimum tillage conditions, on consolidated ploughed soil and when drilling into cover crops.
Strautmann, established over 80 years ago, has developed market leading expertise in the fields of livestock feeding, forage harvesting and muck spreading, with a market leading range of mixer wagons – the Verti-Mix range for all your ration feeding requirements both trailed and self-propelled.

(Agricultural Engineering Association) advice on
the introduction of 'Sulphur Free Gas Oil'. Copied
here is a report drawn up by Chris Evans of the
AEA, regarding the need for "good housekeeping
for fuel" with the introduction of new
'Sulphur Free Gas Oil' from the 1st Jan 2011; although
in practice this is applicable for any fuel supplied
in the last couple of weeks as fuel suppliers gear
up to meet the deadline for the new legislation
on the 1st Jan 2011.
........."From 1 January 2011 the red diesel supplied for use in agricultural
tractors and vehicles will contain lower levels of sulphur and will commonly
be referred to as ‘sulphur free gas oil’ by fuel suppliers. Red diesel presently
can contain 1000 parts per million of sulphur but there is a new requirement
(EU Directive 2009/30/EC) that it must contain no more than 10 milligrams of
sulphur per kilogram of fuel.
This change is coincident with the introduction of new
Stage IIIB engines to meet the emissions regulations and
these engines will require lower sulphur fuels to ensure
that control systems will not be damaged.
It is not yet known whether the fuel refiners and distributors
will supply road quality diesel that has been marked (dyed
red) or a separate fuel of slightly different quality (also
dyed red) with a lower cetane level but in either event the
fuel will actually be more refined than the present red diesel
and of itself should provide no performance issues.
However the fuel specification for road diesel permits
suppliers to add biofuels up to 7% and users need to be aware
of possible issues arising from this. Basically what is required
is a higher standard of housekeeping on the parts of those
storing the fuel and an understanding of problems that could
The oxidation stability of this fuel will be poorer than
that of current gas oil. Over time oxidation can precipitate
solids with potential to block filters in fuel distribution
systems or in vehicle fuel systems. To minimise the likelihood
of this occurring, it is recommended that users take particular
care to ensure a fuel turnover period of once every 6 months
and, in any event, no longer than once every 12 months.
Sulphur free gas oil containing biodiesel will also
be more prone to bacterial contamination than current gas oil.
Bacterial growth can also potentially result in blockage of
fuel filters and increased corrosion. Prolonged use of contaminated
fuel could result in damage to engines. Bacterial growth can
be prevented by eliminating water from fuel storage tanks and
conducting monthly checks that tanks remain free of water.
Where a bacterial growth outbreak has occurred, this can be
addressed either by emptying and cleaning the tanks, or by
seeking specialist help to tackle the outbreak with biocide
additives and filtering.
Sulphur free gas oil containing biodiesel is a better
solvent than current gas oil. As a result it may pick up
deposits already in fuel storage and dispensing systems and
in fuel tanks. To prevent those deposits from blocking filters,
a one-time replacement of storage tank and vehicle fuel filters,
outside the regular service interval, after 2 to 3 tank throughputs
of sulphur free gas oil is recommended.
Fuel seals in sight gauges on older fuel storage tanks
may be incompatible with sulphur free gas oil, irrespective
of whether it contains biodiesel, and may require replacing.
Users should examine sight gauges following the switchover
to sulphur free gas oil. If there are signs of leakage they
will need a one-off replacement of these seals. If they are
having fuel storage tanks serviced in advance of the introduction
of sulphur free gas oil, it would be worth their while getting
fuel seals replaced as a precaution.
One final observation is that subject to supply heating
oil may continue to be supplied at 1000ppm sulphur (this
depends on the willingness of refiners and distributors to
continue to supply it). Users would need to have separate
storage for the two types of fuel and under no circumstances
should these be mixed. Modern engines could be adversely
affected by anyone illegally using this fuel and vehicles
equipped with Tier IIIB engines could suffer significant

Show 2009 a huge success for AGCO with the launch of the
new MF8690 on show for the first time in the UK, resplendent
in its new brighter MF red & traditional Ferguson Grey. LAMMA
Show 2009 attracted record crowds with an estimate attendance
of over 40,000 people over the two days according to LAMMA
Show Chairman Tony Lighton. Despite a poor weather forecast
for the second day of the show (and some traffic
issues - down simply to the volume of traffic), attendance
was still excellent on the second day, on top of record crowds
on day one. Show Chairman Tony Lighton confirmed that despite
some rumours being discussed at the show, LAMMA Show was
not and would never be for sale, and that LAMMA Show 2010
would be held at the excellent Newark Show ground and this
continue indefinitely - with hopefully greater co-operation
from the local Police to assist in managing the traffic !
mood at the show was positive, with the falling pound strengthening
the export price of cereals, helpfully publicised at the show
by Gleddals. Along with record crowds there were a record number
of exhibitors, with all of Chandlers suppliers in attendance,
displaying a huge quantity of tractors and machinery of all descriptions
show stand indoors in the Lady Eastwood Pavilion was the
place to be on the second day when the inevitable January weather
stand was supported by Chandlers with a merchandising
trailer, supplying all types of branded clothing and toys from
AGCO. This proved to be a great success, with a large number of
customers from all over the country queuing up to buy branded
clothing and toys keen to be seen associated with the always
brands they represent with Massey Ferguson, Fendt and Challenger
coats by far the most popular throughout the show.
On display for the first time in the UK was the award winning
new MF8690, which judging by the muddy trampled ground surrounding
it was the most viewed machine in the show ground. The MF8690 along
with the rest of the tractor range were on display in their new

event proved a great success drawing both customers
local to the site near to Nettleham and customers from as
far afield as Boston, Stamford and Spalding. Despite cold
rain immediately prior to the event - which made ground conditions
difficult - the event was well attended on both days with
close to 400 people in all, including the students from Riseholme
college as part of their agricultural engineering course.
Demonstrations went ahead on the recently harvested sugar
beet fields surrounding
the site, with the chance for all to try out something different.
Massey Ferguson displayed the Autoguide self steering system
on a 6499 tractor with a He-Va combi-lift and disc roller
cultivator and Challenger displayed the same system on an
MT765B with the SMS Finisher F1. While Fendt displayed their
grunty 4 cylinder 415 model with a Lemken 5 furrow plough.
Customers and manufacturers alike were well fed and looked
after with catering by B&S Catering - run by a local
customer Stuart Ranby and his wife from Retford.
The prize draw for £100 of shop
vouchers was won by Mr Michael Bates, of H. Bates & Son -
Willingham-by-Stow who will have them in time for
some last minute Christmas shopping ! On show there was plenty
full line up tractors from Massey Ferguson, Fendt and Challenger,
machinery from Kuhn, Lemken, Standen-Pearson, Lely Welger,
McConnel, AS Trailers, SMS, Strautmann and Berthoud. There
were also test drives in Subaru and Isuzu 4x4s, and horticultural
interest with the line-up of compact tractors and RTVs from Kubota.
It was commented that it was like a mini-LAMMA ! must have been

the event a drivers clinic was run
for MF, Fendt and Challenger, and interested parties had one
on one instruction from the manufacturers area
sales representatives getting to the bottom of some of the
more technical aspects of tractor operation. Also on display
event was Chandlers local area service manager Paul Cattermole
and his mobile workshop. He was busy meeting customers
who had not
previously seen into the mobile workshop, and they were impressed
by the set up, and range of jobs he could tackle on farm at
the first visit, with a broad range of special service tools,
diagnostics and direct parts ordering via the internet. The
only people busier than Paul, were local area salesmen Sean
and Ian Sharpe, who were flat out both days showing customers
around the large amount of machinery on display, and taking orders
out for coverage of the event in the January edition of the Farmers

use of their Lodge Farm Yard.
